Data Assignment #4 (due April 5, 11:59pm)
Econ 366 Chart Week!
This is a chance for some of you to make up some grades and for all of you to show off your skills. Remember that I’ll take your top-3 assignment grades, so you don’t necessarily have to do this one.
The last week of class, we’re going to do the bi-annual Econ 366 chart day. Here’s last year’s charts!
The parameters are simple. You send me a Markdown file with the chart that you think people should be watching for the next year in Alberta / Canadian / Global energy markets. It could be an oil chart, a gas, chart, a power chart, or a climate chart. The only restrictions are that it has to be your own chart that you create in R.
You should also include a 150 word write-up of why you chose this chart, what makes it impactful for you, and what you think people should be watching for in future versions of this chart.
A few requirements:
Use the template provided you and follow the instructions in it. Really. It will make my life easier if you do this. Most importantly, the file will be just the markdown text, no headers. Imagine you are sending me what I will paste into my large markdown file. Give it your own file name,
lastname.rmd
.Cite your sources including data sources in the graph caption.
You may send me ONE data file to be read in by your code. If you want to have data cleaned in Excel, save it as a csv with
yourname.csv
as the file name. DO NOT send medata.csv
or the like, since then I have to edit your code and your data so that it works with everyone else’s code.
I will post all of the charts in one update to my energy charts Substack , and make sure there’s a link to your LinkedIn or other personal information if you would like that to be shared. You may also choose to not have your chart included, or to have it included anonymously.
